Obituary of Jane T. (Zdanowicz) Melody

Jane (Zdanowicz) Melody, 100 years old, of Peabody, died peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014. Born in Salem, MA on April 17, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Stephan and Antonina (Marcisak) Zdanowicz, and the wife of the late John Melody. Prior to her retirement, Jane worked in the Credit Union at GTE Sylvania in Salem for over 40 years. Jane enjoyed knitting baby sweaters and blankets, bingo, line dancing and trips with the Peabody Council on Aging and the Golden Agers. She also enjoyed watching the Red Sox and hoped they would win the World Series again this year. Jane loved playing the slots at Foxwoods, which is where she celebrated her 100th birthday. Jane is survived by her daughter Donna and her husband Philip Marquardo; grandson David Marquardo; granddaughter Gina Goodrich and her husband Kristopher; sister-in-law Gertrude Zdanowicz, and a niece Trudy Duda. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Joseph, Frank, John, Edmund, Amelia, Victoria Zdanowicz, Helen Duda and Henrietta Batchelder. The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff at Rosewood Nursing and Rehab for their many years of kind and compassionate care. Jane remained at home and was lovingly cared for by her home health aides Kathy Brewer and Ruth Ross of N.S. Elder Services. Our thanks also go out to Care Dimensions for their brief but much appreciated help and support. As per the family’s request, funeral services were private.
