Obituary of Nicholas G. "Paps" Christy
Nicholas G. “Paps” Christy, 88, devoted husband of Helen (Tsaltas) Christy, died on Sunday, July 13, 2014 with his family by his side at the NSMC Salem Hospital.
Mr. Christy was born in Everett, on December 31, 1925, son of George and Thelma (Spelapos) Christy. He was raised and educated in Everett graduating from Everett High School. In 1944, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy serving until the end of WWII. He remained in the Naval Reserve and was re-activated in 1950 at the start of the Korean War and served until he was honorably discharged in 1952 following 8 years of dedicated service to his country.
Nicholas began his working on the North Shore as a meat cutter a career which extended for more than 40 years. In 1988, he retired as the meat manager at Stop & Shop in Salem a position which he held for many years. Paps was a loving father who devoted his life to his family and then later he was so proud of his grandchildren, great grandchildren and enjoyed following their accomplishments. Everyone will always remember Paps for the wonderful times spent at gatherings with family and friends. He also enjoyed a friendly game of poker, golfing in his younger days and following sports.
In addition to his wife Helen with whom he shared 68 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 sons, Robert N. Christy of Peabody, and George J. Christy and his wife Sharon of Beverly; his grandchildren, Rob Christy and his wife Cathy, Jennifer Clark and Mark Christy; 4 great grandchildren, Brayden and Isabella Clark, and Lauren and Lila Christy; a brother and his wife, Constantine “Gus” and Catherine Christy of CT, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Ernest Christy and a daughter-in-law Helen Christy.
