Obituary of Mary T. (Sullivan) Allen

Mary T. (Sullivan) Allen, 93, of South Peabody died peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late James E. Allen. She was born in Somerville, MA on December 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Hickey) Sullivan and was raised and educated there. After her marriage, she and her husband had resided in Arlington, MA, and Hamden Ct., before moving to Peabody 48 years ago. She had worked in her earlier years as a comptometer for First National Stores in Somerville. Mary loved to cook and the family enjoyed her famous clam dip. She also traveled with her husband and enjoyed playing Bridge and other card games. In her healthier years, she was a devout communicant of St. Ann’s Church. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Allen Bliss and Marc Bliss of Manchester by the sea, MA and Jeanne Allen and her husband Don Smith of Durham, NH, a son, James E. Allen of Danvers, MA. She was “Grandma” to William J. Wilson IV and his wife Mariah of Medfield, MA, Jennie Allen Terry and her husband Jason Terry of Beverly, Kelsey Smith of Philadelphia, PA and Elizabeth Allen of Peabody who was instrumental in caring for her and fulfilling her wish to remain in her home, Molly Smith of Durham ,NH, Kate Bliss Sirpenski and her husband Dan of Berlin, MA, Jim Bliss and his wife Sita Magnuson of Easthampton, MA and her great grandchildren, James Peter Kenah, Norah Sirpenski, Faro Bliss and Finn Terry , her sister, Katherine Sullivan Cook of Somerville and Billerica, her sister- in- law Anne Claflin Allen of Belmont, MA, her friends to the end, Claire and Armand LeBlanc of Peabody MA, a daughter-in-law, Linda Allen who was a source of comfort and support and a host of nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John, Thomas and Ellen Sullivan. A visitation will be held on Friday , July 25, 2014 from 9:00 until 9:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
