Obituary of Olinda Abrantes (Nogueira) Fernandes

Olinda Abrantes Fernandes, 84, of Peabody, died Saturday at the Penacook Place Nursing Home in Haverhill with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Carlos Fernandes. She was born in, Povoa Da Rainha, Portugal on October 14, 1929, the daughter of the late Angelino Gomes and Patrocinia d’Abrantes (Nogueira) Coelho and was raised and resided there before emigrating to Peabody, MA in 1957. She had been employed at the GTE Sylvania Company at the Boston St., Salem plant for 15 years prior to her retirement. Olinda liked to make her special meals for her family and enjoyed going to the Peter Torigian Community Life Center. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and had been a devout member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maria E. and Antonio Dos Santos of Peabody, her grandchildren, Christina M. and her husband Eric Tarpy of Haverhill and Michael F. and his wife Shauna Dos Santos of New York City, NY, her great grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Tarpy and Mason Dos Santos, her brother and sister-in-law, Tomaz and Esaura Nogueira of Peabody, a niece, Maria Francis of Salem, her two nephews, Antonio Nogueira of Salem and Carlos Nogueira of Peabody and many loving friends. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA facility. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Povoa Da Rainha Cemetery in Portugal. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Penacook Place Dementia Unit, 150 Water St., Haverhill, MA01830 in her memory.
