Obituary of Barbara Ann (Moses) Arvanitides

SALEM--Barbara Ann (Moses) Arvanitides, affectionately known as “Mrs. A.”, 68, of Salem, died Friday August 1, 2014 at the Beth Israel/ Deaconess Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of 43 years to George Arvanitides. She was born and raised in Roslindale, daughter of the late George and Adele (Solomon) Moses, with her birthday on July 5, 1946. She had resided in Salem for the past 42 years. She was a graduate of Boston College, receiving her degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Boston for 30 years. Later she was a tutor at the Hunt Center in Danvers and had volunteered at the North Shore Children’s Hospital in Salem. She was a Sunday School teacher at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody and was currently the President of the Daughters of Penelope. She acted as a second “Mom” to many of her children’s friends and was very generous at heart in helping them. She was a devoted mother to her children and especially her grandchildren. She loved to travel with family and friends, and going to the theater. She always had a smile on her face and was willing to give of herself to others. She is survived by her husband George, her son, Steven Arvanitides of Salem, her daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Dennis Murphy of Salisbury, three grandchildren, David Jason Arvanitides and twins, Ava Barbara Murphy and Riley Claire Murphy and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was the sister of the late George Moses. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St. Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960 in her memory.
