Obituary of Maria Fatima (Silva) Vieira

Maria Fatima (Silva) Vieira, 74, of Peabody, died peacefully Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014, at her residence with her family at her side. She was the wife of 52 years to Baltazar Vieira. She was born in Gracioza, Azores, Portugal on May 16, 1940, the daughter of the late Antonio and Eva (Clement) Silva and was raised there before immigrating to Peabody sixty years ago. She was first employed at the New England Sportswear Company of Peabody and later worked at the GTE Sylvania Co. at the Sylvan St., Danvers plant for 27 years prior to her retirement. Maria was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and Our Lady of Help Society and Our Lady of Fatima Church. She enjoyed cooking dinners for her family, working with her plants and doing crocheting. She and her husband loved to travel back to Portugal and Europe and taking trips with the family to Hawaii. She is survived by her husband, Baltazar, a daughter and son-in-law, Noelia and Patrick Murphy of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Jose and Maria Silva of Peabody her cherished grandchildren, Kristine, Patricia and James Murphy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA02472 in her memory.
