Obituary of Florence "Flo" (Carter) Fortin

Florence E. “Flo” (Carter) Fortin, 79, of Peabody and formerly of Lawrence, died Monday afternoon surrounded by her loving family at Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Francis J Fortin. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late James and Florence (Codair) Carter. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of St. John’s High School, class of 1953. Flo was employed as a shipper for 10 years for Willard Helburn Leather Company for 10 years. She also did home child care for many years as well. While she was living at the Tannery Apartments, Flo served as President of Tannery 1 Tenants Council. Family was everything to Flo and she was well know for her cake making abilities, and she especially enjoyed baking cakes for all her family’s birthdays. Flo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Morrissey of Beverly, her two brothers James Carter of Peabody and Robert Carter of Onset, her two loving grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Morrissey and her grand niece Abby Sirois, all of Beverly. She was predeceased by her sisters, Phyllis Carter, Arlene Tweed, Alice Perry, and Mae Sirois. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
