Obituary of Thomas H Dolan
Thomas Henry Dolan was born December 31, 1913 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late James and Margaret (Ready) Dolan. He has two sisters, Margaret (Dolan) Silck and Mary (Dolan) Cronin, and a brother James Dolan, all deceased.
Tom was educated in the Lynn Public School system and graduated from Lynn Classical High School.
He was married for fifty eight years to the late Helen (Coyne) on October 24, 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II in the European Theatre, England and France, until 1945. Upon his return home, he worked briefly at Allis Chalmers and then as a crane operator at Hume Pipe Company in Swampscott until his retirement.
Tom’s family includes his two daughters Jean Danish and her husband Alex of Beverly, and Joyce McAllister and her husband Don of Peabody. He is the proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Eric Danish and his wife Tracey of Winder, GA, Mark Danish and his wife Kristyna of Danvers, Scott McAllister of Peabody, and Erin McAllister of Peabody. He has three great grandchildren: Gavin Danish and Luke Danish (deceased) of Winder, GA and Madyson Danish of Danvers.
Tom remained very active after his retirement and even into his early 90’s. He was especially proud of maintaining a beautifully landscaped yard at his home, and could be seen riding his bike around the neighborhood. His hobbies included playing golf with his old friends and walking on Lynn Shore Drive. He especially loved the beach area. He was an avid reader and was very often a fixture at the West and South Branch Libraries in Peabody.
Although he always enjoyed listening to the Boston Red Sox on his radio, his true passion was watching the New England Patriots with his sons-in-law, grandchildren and friends on Sundays.
Thomas was also known as “P” to his grandchildren and by almost everyone in later years, was a wonderful family man. He was a religious man, having attended Mass almost daily at the Carmelite Chapel in Peabody and as a communicant of St Ann’s Parish. He was devoted to Blessed Mother Mary. He had a special connection to his mother. He was a devoted husband and, in later years, a caregiver to his wife Helen. He was very close and involved with his grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. Having survived both the great depression and World War II, he had always kept up with current events. He even thought about getting a computer so he could keep in touch with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Greatest Generation. After a period of ill health, he had resided at the Pilgrim Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Peabody. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Pilgrim Skilled Nursing and Rehab for the care and kindness shown to him during his stay at the facility.
