Obituary of John A. Winter
John A. Winter, 94, of Peabody, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth R. (Daley) Winter, died early Sunday afternoon at Union Hospital, Lynn following a brief illness.
Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Baldwin) Winter. He later lived in Lexington and Nashua, NH and has spent the last three years living in Peabody.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. After the war, he worked for over 25 years as a claims adjuster for the John Hancock Insurance Company, retiring in June of 1973.
Upon his retirement at Royal Crest, he volunteered at Mt Hope School and also played the piano as well. He also was a communicant of St. Catherine’ s Church in Hudson, NH and enjoyed carpentry and handiwork.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sheila Winter of Murrells Inlet, SC, two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Francis Kiley of Somerville and Paula and Richard Dolan of Peabody, and a brother of Edward Winter of Lexington. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 5:00 until 9:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The Smile Train, Suite 2201, 245 Fifth Ave., NY, NY 10016. The Smile Train is a group of volunteer Doctors who travel the world performing facial surgery for children.
