Obituary of James F. Slattery, Sr.

James F. Slattery, 69, beloved husband of Virginia (Hill) Slattery, died at his home on Wednesday October 15, 2014. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John and Edna (Morley) Slattery. He grew up there and attended Lynn schools. Mr. Slattery worked his career with General Electric from a Welder up to an Inspector with Quality Control, and in buildings 67 and 40. . He retired 13 years ago. Jim was a loyal member of the union, IUE CWA local 201, enjoyed bus trips to Vermont and New Hampshire, blues-jazz music like Stevie-Ray Vaughn or Bo Diddley, puttering around the house and growing vegetables in the garden. He was an avid walker, and was a faithful, devoted member of St. Ann’s Church in Peabody. He was most passionate as a dedicated caregiver for his family with his children and grandchildren, acting to care for his grandchildren while their parents went to school or work. Also he loved animals and felt blessed to have several cats that he adored. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Hill) Slattery of Peabody, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage; a son James Slattery, Jr. of Kingston, NH; a daughter Caroline Sorell and her husband Edwin of Peabody; five grandchildren, Jordan and Morgan Slattery of NH, and twins Haley-Mae Elizabeth and Harry James Sorell and Nathaniel Edward Sorell all of Peabody; two brothers William Slattery of Saugus and John Slattery of Lynn; three sisters Judith Rouleau of Saugus, Juanita Phillips of Lynn, and Paulette Comeau of Andover, a sister-in-law, Florence Walsh and her husband Robert Walsh and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday October 20, 2014 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 – 5 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to an organization of one’s choice that supports cognitive/brain issues.
