Obituary of Donald F. Slack

Donald F. Slack PEABODY—Donald F. Slack, 86, beloved husband of Suzanne (Pabisz) Slack, died peacefully on Friday November 21, 2014 at the Beverly Hospital, following an extended illness. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Stephen and Kathryn (Howley) Slack. He grew up in Boylston, and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Worcester. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Little Rock during World War II. Donald kept in close touch with his Navy buddies, enjoying ship reunions from time to time. After the service, Donald continued his education at Holy Cross College in Worcester, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Economics. He was self-employed as a Manufacturer’s Rep for industrial products. For the past 27 years, he represented Giering Metal Finishing Company in Hamden, CT. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1708 in Andover. He enjoyed Square Dancing with the Single Eights in Haverhill where he and Suzanne met. He cheered passionately for his favorite football teams, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturdays and the Green Bay Packers on Sundays. Donald will be remembered for his deep faith, his sense of humor, and especially for his unconditional love and willingness to help those in troubled times. He is survived by his wife Suzanne (Pabisz) Slack of Peabody, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage; his son Dr. Stephen Slack & his wife Catherine of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Caitryn, Patrick, Conor, and Maggie all of Seattle; two sisters Claire Horvath of Sturbridge and Joan Cote and her husband William of Franktown, CO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by an infant son Michael, a brother Richard Slack and sister Eleanor Galvin. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday November 29, 2014 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn ST., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody with Military Honors.
