Obituary of Walter J. "Shorty" Ogiba

Walter J. Shorty Ogiba 88 years of Peabody, husband of the late Mary F. Sally (Cruddas) Ogiba, died Saturday afternoon at the Life Care Center of the North Shore in Lynn. Mr. Ogiba was born August 30, 1917 in Lowell son of the late Andrew and Jozefa (Wozniak) Ogiba. He was raised and educated in Lowell. During WW II he served in the Merchant Marines. Mr. Ogiba has been a Peabody resident for 65 years. Mr. Ogiba was employed for 35 years as a leather worker at A.C. Lawrence Company in Peabody until his retirement. He was an associate member of the A.O.H. Division 11 in Peabody and a member of the former Pulaski Club and St. Stanislaw Society in Peabody. He enjoyed attending horse racing and fishing. He is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, William J. and Shirley Ogiba and John F. Ogiba all of Peabody, Robert J. and Beverly Ogiba of Danvers; a brother, Theodore Ogiba of Miami FL; a sister, Jenny Kooshkalis of Boxford; 6 grandchildren, Richard Ogiba of Beverly, Patricia Ogiba of Derry NH, Laurie Capone of Kingston NH, Dawn Marie Budgil of Newburyport, John Ogiba Jr. of Las Vegas NV and Kerri Mosko of Salem; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A son Michael Ogiba and his siblings Stanley and Henry Ogiba predeceased him. His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friend are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
