Obituary of Edith O. (Stevenson) MacGregor

Edith O. (Stevenson) MacGregor, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Sunday evening at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Malcolm K. MacGregor with whom she shared over 66 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Ada M. (Ryder) Stevenson. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She has lived in Peabody and Florida for the past 60 years. Edith was employed as a typist and clerk for General Accident in Peabody for many years before retiring. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed wintering on Florida’s West Coast for many years and then for ten years she was a permanent resident of Port Charlotte, Florida. She moved back to Peabody seven years ago to be near her family and friends. Edith enjoyed quilting and was an avid knitter who enjoyed making beanies for babies and sending them to local hospitals. She also enjoyed embroidering in a typical Japanese Bunka style as well. Besides her loving husband of 66 years, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles T. and Patti MacGregor of Fredericksburg, VA, her two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen A. and Thomas Smales of Salem and Jeanette L. and David Franchio of Chelmsford, her sister, Nancy Herzog of Southern Shore, NC and is also survived by seven grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Ada Hammond and by a grandchild. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 12:00 PM Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
