Obituary of Kerry "Clay" Anastopoulos
Kerry “Clay” Anastopoulos, 83, beloved husband of Stella (Spaneas) Anastopoulos, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, passed away December 12, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late George and Beatrice Anastopoulos.
Clay grew up in the Brickyard in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School. Following high school, Clay was a carpenter and then enlisted in the US Army during the Korean conflict. During the 1960’s and 70’s, Clay was the proprietor of the Spartan Club on Walnut Street in Peabody. He later worked at J. B. Thomas Hospital as the Food Services Director until his retirement in the early 1990’s. After retirement, Clay continued working part time at Santoro’s in Peabody for many years.
Clay loved Boston sports teams especially the Patriots and attending Red Sox games. He loved to run his bus trips for his friends known as “Clay’s Travelers” to Foxwoods. He was a member of the Peabody Elks and Franco American Club in Beverly and the St. Vasilios Men’s Club. He worked tirelessly for Veteran’s causes. He enjoyed keeping fit at the Peabody YMCA, with his golf league and walks with his wife Stella.
In addition to his wife Stella, he is survived by his son Cris Anastopoulos and his wife Kathy of Peabody, his brother Charlie Anastos and his wife Marie of Lynn, his sister Annie Anastos of Lynn, his sisters in law Dorothy Anastos of Wakefield and Ginger Anastos of New York, his grandchildren Jen and Len and his great grandchildren Hunter and Katelyn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his sister Christina Anastos and his brothers Peter and Philip Anastos.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by His Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
