Obituary of Catherine P. (Freeman) Coughlin

Catherine P. (Freeman) Coughlin, 87, beloved wife of the late Michael Coughlin, died peacefully on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Cunney) Freeman. She was a lifelong resident of the city, and graduated from St. John’s High School. Catherine had a musical gift and played the organ at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. She also was a Crossing Guard with the City of Peabody School Department for many years. She loved reading, discussions in politics, and attending musical productions. She is survived by two sons, Michael J. Coughlin & his wife Bernadette of Peabody and Paul Coughlin & his wife Dawn of Shrewsbury; two daughters, Mary Frances Hill & her husband Aaron of Groton and Ann Catherine O’Grady of Acton; 10 grandchildren, Jill Coughlin, MaryJo Coughlin, Sarah Negron, Riley Stockwell, Katie Rose Stockwall, Bridget Stockwell, Rory Coughlin, Ryan Coughlin, Desmond O’Grady, Ciara O’Grady, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husband, by a brother John Freeman and sister Mary Horgan. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the wounded warrior project, the VFW or a charity of one’s choice.
