Obituary of Ethel F. (Dooling) Crean

Ethel F. (Dooling) Crean, 92 years, of Peabody, wife of the late Edward F. Crean died Saturday at the Peabody Glen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Peabody. Mrs. Crean was born December 10, 1910 in Peabody, daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Henry) Dooling. She was raised in Peabody graduating from Peabody High School class of 1928 and was a lifelong resident. In 1930 she received her degree in education from the Salem Normal School now know as Salem State College. She began her teaching career at the Carroll School then taught one year at the Kiley School. Mrs. Crean retired in 1974 from the South School after teaching there for 42 years. Mrs. Crean was a member and past treasurer of the Teachers Union Local 1289 and a member of the Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts, the Peabody Council on Aging, the Peabody Golden Agers and was very active at the Peter A Torigian Community Life Center. She is survived by a son and his wife, Robert E. and Diane Crean of Peabody; a daughter and her husband, Eleanor M. and Philip Torto of Lynn; 2 grandchildren, Elissa M. Torto and Michael E. Torto both of Lynn. She was also pre deceased by a sister and 4 brothers. Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s cemetery, Salem.
