Obituary of J. Edward Gallant
J. Edward Ed Gallant, 83, of Peabody, died Sunday evening at the Harborside Cedar Glenn Nursing Home in Danvers after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Donahoe) Gallant who died in January, 2003.
He was born in Weston, Ma. on October 6, 1919, the son of the late Jeremiah and Mary
(Galant) Galant . He was raised in Lynn graduating from Lynn English High School and
resided in Peabody for the past 55 years.
He was a veteran of WW 11 serving overseas
with the U.S. Army as a First Lieut. prior to his discharge in 1946.
He then was employed with the Coca-cola bottling company at the Lynn plant for 30 years where he worked up to a manager of soft-drinks division before his retirement.
He then worked at the Boston Flower Exchange for 15 years.
An avid golfer, he formed
The Gallant Golf group that played for many years at New Meadow Golf club in
Topsfield. He was active in St. Johns’ Church, Peabody as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of St. John’ s Holy Name Society and working the parish bazaars. He was also
a member of the West Beach Association of Beverly Farms for several years.
He is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph E. Jay Gallant of Homestead, Fl. and Gerald and Susan Gallant of Gloucester, two daughters and a son-in-law, Rosemary Crocker of Danvers and Marsha and Tom Charlton of Beverly; 3 brothers, Robert and Arthur Gallant of Lynn and Russell Gallant of Peabody; 6 grandchildren, Amy and her husband Bob Le Page of Peabody, Brian Crocker of Salem,
Ryan, Ashley and Patrick Charlton of Beverly, and Alexandra Gallant of Gloucester, a great grandchild, Nathan Le Page of Peabody and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Donald, Clifford and James Gallant and Margaret Amirault.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
