Obituary of Sally A. "Mimi" (Galvin) Cassidy

Sally A. “Mimi” (Galvin) Cassidy, 61, of Peabody, wife of 41 years to the late Edward J. Cassidy, Jr., died on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 with her family at her side at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Sally was born in Salem, on July 4, 1953, daughter of the late Francis J. and Mary V. (Hannon) Galvin. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1971 and was a lifelong resident of the city. She then pursued her education at Salem State College for 2 years. Sally was employed 15 years as an Assistant Bank Manager at Heritage Co-Operative Bank in Salem until 2000. Following her High School graduation and prior to her marriage, she had been employed as a sales representative at New England Telephone Company. Sally was a loving mother who dedicated her life to creating a home for her family and for the past 5 years enjoying her grandsons. She enjoyed cooking and as hobbies playing beano and going to Foxwoods. Sally is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Courtney P. and William C. Newberg of Peabody; her 2 grandsons, Cole and Tyler Newberg; her sister and husband, Mary Fran and John W. Shirley of Portsmouth, NH, a brother and his wife, Michael and Diane Galvin of Nashua, NH; 2 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law, Michael Cassidy, Eva Galvin both of Peabody, Eileen Jackson of Beverly, and Karen and Sterling Walker of FL; many nieces, nephews and her loyal companion dog Sammy. Sally was also predeceased by her brother John “Jack” Galvin. The family wishes to recognize MGH Dr. Rory Weiner and Dr. Glenn LaMuraglia who cared for her for many years, and the entire staff on Ellison 11 for their exceptional dedication and professionalism. Sally’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Deacon Leo Martin will officiate her Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
