Obituary of James E. Quinlan
James E. Quinlan, 71, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Betty Ann (Hinchion) Quinlan with whom he shared over 48 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late James and Bridgett (McLeod) Quinlan. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War who served stateside with the United States Army at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and later was stationed in Wellfleet before being discharged from the army.
He worked for over 35 years for the Federal Aviation Administration, first at Boston’ s Logan International Airport and later in Burlington, retiring in October 1992 as human resource manager.
Mr. Quinlan was an outdoorsman who enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, and ice skating. He also enjoyed jewelry making and furniture making for his family.
Besides his loving wife of 48 years, he is survived his three children, James E Quinlan, Jr., and his wife Kathleen of Danvers, Joyce and her husband Richard Briggs of Amesbury, and Patricia Vigneault of Oak Ridge, NC, his sisters, Margaret Church and Barbara and her husband Paul Dumas, all of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Ann Quinlan of Salem, his brothers-in-law, James Hinchion of Peabody and Francis and his wife Bette Hinchion of Salisbury, MD. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Courtney, Matthew, Alyssa, Kyle, Calli, Phillip, and Colleen, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother of the late Billy Quinlan, and Eileen Arrington.
His funeral service will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
