Obituary of Anna Gurdon

Anna Gurdon, 90, widow of Joseph Gurdon, passed away on Saturday evening at Peabody Glen Nursing Home surrounded by her entire family. Born in Hungary on October 25, 1915, she immigrated to the United States with her family in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution. She lived on the North Shore for the last 49 years. Mrs. Gurdon worked as a homemaker providing a loving and nurturing home to her four children. Her greatest happiness was derived from the happiness of her family that has grown from her original four children to the now expanded family of 29. Anna, known to everyone as Anyu, enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. With her grandchildren to her great-grandchildren she attended church celebrations, ballgames, birthday parties and holidays. Shge also participated in activities at PACE program, Adult Day Care Center in Lynn. Anyu loved to bake delicious cakes and make traditional Hungarian foods that family and extended family looked forward to enjoying with her. She took great pride and had endless patience when teaching her children and grandchildren how to prepare their favorite recipes. She was also an avid bird lover. She is survived by her daughter Georgianna and her husband Sandor Doka of Reading; three sons George and his wife Sharon Gurdon of Beverly, Stephen and his wife Elizabeth Gurdon of Danvers and Laszlo Gurdon of Salem; 6 granddaughters and their spouses, Marianna and Paul Zanni, Stephanie and William Doucette-Walsh, Jennifer and Michael D’ Amico, Christine and John Berchoff, Susan and John Tocio and Ashley Gurdon; 6 great-grandsons, Christian, Jonathan, Michael, Jameson, Daniel and Nicholas; 5 great granddaughters Kayla, Samantha, Brianna, Kristina, and Hannah Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut ST location, relatives and friends kindly invited. A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 AM Cremation will follow the ceremony. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melrose Wakefield Hospital Oncology Dept., in memory of Anna Gurdon, 585 Lebanon St., Melrose MA 02176.
