Obituary of John E. Keenan
John E. Keenan 92, of Peabody, loving husband of Mary L. (Punch) Keenan, died at his residence with his family by his side on Friday, February 6, 2015.
John was born in Boston, on June 29, 1922 son of Alexander and Mary (Campbell) Keenan. He was raised in Boston and graduated from Boston Commerce High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served as a Radioman Third Class with the Lighter Than Air Blimps Airship Squadron, and attaining the rank of V-6 prior to being Honorably discharged in 1946. He then pursued his education at Stanley College in Brookline receiving his Degree in Business.
John was employed for 27 years as a salesman with Jordan Marsh and Macy’s until his retirement in 1984. John was a loving father who devoted his life to creating a home for his family, and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports activities and following their scholastic achievements. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann Church, was a member of the K of C Frank Meader Council # 6064 in Georgetown, wrote songs and participated in shows with the Golden Agers at the Peter Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody, and also served meals at my Brother’s Table.
In addition to his wife Mary with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Walter A. and Linda Keenan of Byfield; his grandchildren and their spouses, Colleen and Daniel Carbone of Newton, NH, Michael and Christine Keenan of Stoughton, Brian and Christine Keenan of Byfield; 2 sisters-in-law, Virginia Hall of Foxboro and Carolyn Punch of Milton; 3 nieces, 3 nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by a sister Eleanor McManus and a sister-in-law Dorothea Punch.
His family will receive relatives and friends on WEDNESDAY, February 11, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on THURSDAY, February 12, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. John was a WWII, Aviation, U.S. Navy Veteran and a retired salesman from Jordan Marsh and Macy’s. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
