Obituary of Leland Cole

Leland Cole, 86, of Walnut St., beloved husband of the late Lewene (Verrill) Cole, died Sunday morning at the Danvers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Liberty St. following a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield, ME, he was the son of the late Horace and Florence (Lawrence) Cole. He lived in Litchfield, ME in his youth and attended schools there. He graduated from Hallowell High School, Class of 1933. He lived on the North Shore for over 50 years, and in Peabody for the last nine years. Mr. Cole was involved with several businesses, either as Manager/Operations or in a variety of capacities. He worked mostly with W. J. Young Machinery in Peabody for 10 years, retiring in 1977, and was a Manager with the Go-Go Bowling Lanes in Beverly from 1965 to 1968. He enjoyed the Winter Season in Lakeland, FL after retirement with the companionship of his wife and the love of golf, and Summer Season at Merrill Lake in Maine. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and became a Shriner in Sanford, ME. He was also a gifted athlete who enjoyed weight training, baseball, football and other sports. He is survived by his five-generation family, including: his two sons, Gary M. Cole of Peabody and Daniel Cole of New Smyrna Beach, FL; one daughter, Susan B. Gajeski of Peabody; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Aubrey Cole and Linwood Cole, both of Danvers; one sister, Katherine Bessie Clarke of Sebastian, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lewene (Verrill) Cole, a daughter, Gail Elaine Clay, and brother of the late Sadie Heald and Wesley Cole. His Funeral Ceremony will be held on Wednesday at (No time confirmed) in the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited.
