Obituary of Richard W "Bud" English
Richard “Bud” English, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Sunday evening at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Helen (Saulnier) English with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Richard and Edith Emma (Goodman) English. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1945. Upon graduating from high school, Bud enlisted with the United States Navy and served for one year at the end on World War II.
After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Boston University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1953. He was the owner of Richard English Insurance Company in Lynnfield for a number of years. He later was employed with Liberty Mutual as a claims investigator for ten years and finally before retiring, for Employers of Warsaw for 14 years.
Bud was very active in the community and was a member of the Lynnfield Lions Club, Lynn Knights of Columbus, and Italian Club in Salem and was a member of the Wakefield Elks. He also enjoyed golfing and playing poker.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Robert Selinger of Peabody, his grandchildren, Todd and Danielle Burke and Daryl Selinger, and was devoted to his sisters-in-law, Elva Kelley of Lynn and Anne Neary of Peabody and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Michael English and his sister Dorothy A Ferris.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 8:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude's Research Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105
