Obituary of Janice "Mamie" McCarthy-Vounessea

Janice “Mamie” McCarthy-Vounessea PEABODY – Janice “Mamie” McCarthy-Vounessea, 77, died peacefully at home while in the comforting presence of her family on Sunday February 15, 2015, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Dorothy (Harney) McCarthy. She graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1954 and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed with the City of Peabody School Department and then North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital before retiring. Mamie enjoyed arts and crafts, was proud of her Irish heritage, was fond of animals and cherished her dogs. She was an avid football fan, and was most passionate about spending time with friends or family, and will be remembered for her generous big heart and spirit. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Starratt and Kelly Farrar and her fiancée David Eberhard both of Peabody; two grandsons Bryan Starratt and Chad Starratt both of Peabody; a brother Arthur E. McCarthy of Peabody; three nephews and a niece, Art & his wife Denise McCarthy of Reading, Brian McCarthy of Lynnfield, John & his wife Kelley McCarthy of Peabody, and Donna & her husband Michael Rogers of Middleton, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by her husband George Vounessea, grandson Kenneth Farrar a recent inductee into the Peabody High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and sister-in-law Patricia McCarthy. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Thursday February 19, 2015 from 4 – 7 P.M. with a Funeral Service honoring her life at 7 P.M. Cremation will follow the ceremony. Memorial donations may be made to either the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970 or to Peabody High Football Boosters.
