Obituary of Gus Panarites

Gus Panarites, 87, of Exeter, NH and formerly of Peabody and Florida, died early Wednesday morning at Exeter Hospital in Exeter New Hampshire, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Bessie (Vrettos) Panarites. Born in Greece, he was the son of the late Petros and Maria (Kripotos) Panarites. He was raised and educated in Greece, later immigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody for over 56 years. He has lived in Exeter, New Hampshire for the past two years. He worked as a chef for many years on the North Shore, retiring over 28 years ago from the former Jordan Marsh Restaurant at the North Shore Mall in Peabody. After his retirement, he and his wife Bessie moved to Florida where they resided for over 28 years until Bessie’ s death in December 2003. Mr. Panarites was a member of the AHEPA Greek Society in Clearwater, Florida. He also enjoyed playing the stock market and investing as a small hobby. He is survived by three brothers and a sister-in-law, John and George Panarites, both of Greece and Peter and Maria Panarites of North Bay, Canada, a sister, Evanthia Panarites of Greece, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Chris Vrettos of Stratham, NH and a nephew Petro Panarites of Toronto, Canada. His service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by Funeral Service’ s at 10:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
