Obituary of Sister Esther MacCarthy, SND

Sister Esther MacCarthy, SND (Sr. Robert Marie) 85, died peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Julie Billiart Retirement Center in Ipswich. Sister Esther was born in San Francisco, CA daughter of Robert Emmett and Esther (Mulhall) MacCarthy. Sister was predeceased by her siblings, Mamie, Robert, Justin and John McCarthy. Sister Esther is survived by her Sisters of Notre Dame family. Sr. Esther earned her BA from the College of Notre Dame Belmont, CA and her Master’s & PHD from Stanford University in CA. Sister’s ministries were in San Francisco, Belmont & Salinas CA, So. Africa, Mass Bay Community College, Boston Province Administrator and Emmanuel College. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffreys Neck Road, Ipswich. Preceding Sister Esther’s Mass will be the wake at 10 a.m. to which all are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 351 Broadway, Everett, MA 02149.
