Obituary of Donald H. Dunn

Donald H. Dunn 66 years of Danvers, husband of Nancy G. (Bartol) Dunn, died unexpectedly on Tuesday at Beverly Hospital. Mr. Dunn was born on May 31, 1939 in Peabody son of the late Robert and Mable (Reid) Dunn. He was raised and educated in Peabody. After his parents moved to Framingham in his late teens he graduated from Framingham High School class of 1957. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959 and served as an Airman 2nd Class and was released from active duty in 1962. He remained in the Air Force Reserve until being honorably discharged in 1965. He resided in Lynn for many years, Beverly and Danvers for the past 2 years. Mr. Dunn was presently employed for Securitas Security Service as a security guard at the Newbalance in Lawrence a position that he has held for 7 years. Prior to this and for a period exceeding 35 years he was employed as warehouseman at GTE Sylvania on Rte 114 in Danvers until his retirement in 1998. He was member of the Teamster Local 42 in Lynn. Dunn was a Foster Parent in Lynn for 15 years and was known as Papa to everyone. He was also the recipient of the Foster Parent of the Year Award. His whole life revolved around his family and extended family members. As a hobby he enjoyed making puzzles. In addition to his wife of Newmarket NH, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Jeffrey S. and Lisa Dunn of Saugus, Allen W. and Coon Dunn of CA, John R. Dunn, Laurie G. and Joel Dube, Sally R. Dunn all of Newmarket NH, Julie A. Durkee, and Clifford Beaulieu of Beverly; 4 siblings and their spouses, Thomas and Ruth Dunn of Danvers, Raymond and Phyllis Dunn, Barbara Court all of Peabody and Laura and William Barrett of ME; 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by his siblings, John Dunn, Ruth O’ Leary, Catherine Barker and his infant sister Eleanor Dunn who died from the 1919 flu epidemic. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the South Congregational Church, 60 Prospect St., Peabody. The Rev. Grant Hoofnagle will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.Visiting hours will be held Friday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody. Cremation will be held on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of his daughter Julie Durkee to the North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody MA 01960.
