Obituary of Harold J. "Dan" Mahoney

Harold J. “Dan” Mahoney PEABODY – Harold J. “Dan” Mahoney, 88, beloved husband of the late Venus (Gopoian) Mahoney and his children’s mother, the late Doris M. (O’Leary) Mahoney, died peacefully Sunday March 22, 2015 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, following an extended illness. Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Charles and Mabel (McCarthy) Mahoney. He grew up in Dorchester where he attended schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He did a second tour of duty during the Korean War. Mr. Mahoney worked in the Teamsters Union in Boston as a Shipping Clerk until he retired 28 years ago. Dan was proud of his patriotic duties, and continually volunteered his time as an agent to drive veterans to either their medical appointments or to group meetings with the American Legion. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 227 in Middleton where he also served as Past Post Commander. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Dorchester and in Peabody. He was also very devoted to his family and enjoyed family social gatherings. He is survived by one son and four daughters, Daniel Mahoney of Beverly, Kylanne T. Metzger & her husband Joseph of Bridgewater, Lynn Dullea of Wilmington, and Jill Jenkins & her husband Dan of Peabody; four grandchildren, Elizabeth & Patrick Dullea of Wilmington and Sam & Molly Jenkins of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday March 26, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either the Haven from Hunger, 71 Wallis St., Peabody, MA 01960 or to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
