Obituary of Franklin R. Iula
Franklin R. Iula, 67 years, of Peabody formerly of Malden and Everett, died suddenly early Sunday morning at the Lynn Union Hospital with his family by his side.
Mr. Iula was born December 6, 1935 in Malden son of the late Michael and Carmela (Marotta) Iula. He was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School class of 1953. He later attended Franklin Tech in Boston receiving an associates degree in electronic technology.
Mr. Iula retired in 1996 from the Gilette Safety Razor Division in South Boston, where he had been employed as a licensed electrician and CAD draftsman for over 30 years. He was an avid harmonica player and enjoyed jamming with his sons. He especially enjoyed playing Red River Valley at any family gathering. He loved cooking and would not share his recipes with anyone, especially the ingredients in his famous tuna fish sandwiches.
He was an avid fan and listener of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, country music and loved dancing to the sounds of the big band music from the 1940’ s. Mr. Iula was an animal lover and was devoted to his dog Mollee.
Mr. Iula is survived by his loving wife, Rose A. (Cartolaro) Iula of Peabody; 2 sons and their wives, Michael and Marsha Iula of North Troy, VT and Frank and Elizabeth Iula of Grand Isle, VT; a daughter and her husband, Doreen Iula and Dave Sweatman of Jamestown, NY; 3 grandchildren, Michael Iula Jr. and Hope Iula of North Try, VT and Johanna Rose Iula of Grand Isle, VT; a sister, Carol Mirabito of Dorchester and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location (978-531-0472) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’ s Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge MA 02140.
