Obituary of Daniel H. Schroeder

Daniel H. Schroeder, 78, husband of Shirley R. (Glass) Schroeder, of Peabody, died Saturday evening, June 28, 2003, at his residence. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Daniel B. and Doris M. (Isaacs) Schroeder. Raised and educated in Lynn, he was a resident of Salem before moving to Peabody over 40 years ago. He was a member of the Mosaic Lodge, AM & AM of Danvers. An Army veteran of WWII, he served in Central Europe and the Rhineland with Battery B, 384th Field Artillery Battalion. Prior to his retirement in the late 1980's, Mr. Schroeder was employed as a machinist for many years, first at Fairview Machine in Topsfield, and later at Varian in Gloucester. Following his retirement, for over 20 years, he operated Daniel Studio, specializing in wedding photography. His hobbies included boating, trains, flying model airplanes and collecting WWII military memorabilia. In his days of CB radio, he went by the handle Scotch & Soda. He recently returned to France to visit the towns and regions where he served during the war. Besides his wife, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage, he is survived by one son, Daniel H. Schroeder, Jr and his wife Patricia, of Gilford, NH, one daughter, Pamela Steadman of Saugus, two step-daughters, Cheryl and her husband Kevin Furey of Peabody, Dianne and her husband Robert Newcomb of Raymond, NH, eight grandchildren, Denise Decotiis of Mesa, Arizona, Deborah Murphy of Saugus, Christopher Schroeder of Gilford, NH, Scott Newcomb, Angel Newcomb, both of Raymond, NH, Steven Parker, Siobhan Furey and Sean Furey, all of Peabody, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara Slattery of Chelmsford, Beverly and her husband John O’ Keefe of Hull and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Lillian Schroeder. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Twelve pm at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, at the 12 Chestnut Street, Peabody, facility. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm. Burial is in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
