My family has been connected to the Daly family from the time my mother and Jim's mother worked at Salem Hospital many years ago. Then my sister Moe went to Fenwick with Dick and I went to Fenwick with Kathy. Our paths crossed again at St John's and it was indeed a pleasure to meet Jim, Magda, John and Matt. Some people quietly touch the lives of others and Madga, you and Jim did that. May you find peace.

I was introduced to Rugby in late 1979 and Jim was one of the leaders who taught me how to play; a very, very nice guy. He was an even nicer person off the pitch. I am truly sorry to learn of his passing. Tom Thornton

To the Daly Family.
My wife Elaine and I were very sorry to hear the sad news. Although I had not known Jim as long as so many others of his admirers, I can say that it was always uplifting to say hello to him. His (and your family's) efforts to fight ALS have been exemplary. Please know that Jim's passing serves as another powerful motivation to all of us to do all we can to find a treatment for ALS. Please also know that we will be thinking of him, and that he will be with us, as we extend our efforts to find a cure. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in these difficult days.
Bob Brown and Elaine Beilin

I played rugby with Redball in the 70s. It's been a long time. You don't remember people that long unless they touch you in a special way. What I remember most was he was likeable. Always full of energy and smiling. Great guy.

When you attend a private high school that accommodates students from all over the world, lives intersect for four years, and then disconnect. Often, you don't see your classmates for years at a time. Some classmates I barely remember; others left a profound impression. Jim left a very positive impression on me mostly due to his affability and good nature. I am so sorry for him that he had to endure this cross ... and I'm in awe of his bravery. I'm also equally in awe of his friends and family who were so loyal to him. Rest in peace, fellow SJP 1971er.

Magda, John, Matt & Daly family,
Our deepest sympathies on the loss of Jim. He was one of those rare individuals - athletic, intellectual, dedicated. (determined!),generous, kind, humble - a gentleman. Jim certainly had a winning smile! He was the best friend you could have. Jim fought hard and long with ALS, but never complained. It was my great fortune to have known him for so long. Jim will live on in our memories forever. Rest in Peace old friend!

Dear Daly Family,

I am very saddened by your loss. I met Jim ages ago when I joined Lincoln Lab. I learned a lot from Jim, not only about work but also weight lifting, running and drinking beer! I read the fund raising note on the Harpoon race and the bit about basketball made me chuckle as I played with him at the Lab and experienced his style :) He was a great guy, always smiling with a great, positive attitude. I had not seen him in many years but he left a big impression and has been frequently in my thoughts. My deepest sympathies to you and wish and pray that he is at peace...

Edwin Marin
