Obituary of John C. Leonard

John C. Leonard, 56 IPSWICH – John C. Leonard, 56, of Ipswich and formerly of Peabody, died peacefully on Friday May 8, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. John was the beloved son of the late Kathleen (McCarthy) and Francis “Bud” Leonard. He grew up in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1976. He worked in manufacturing at Millipore Corporation for many years. He later moved to Ipswich where he worked and retired from the Town of Ipswich. John was an avid outdoorsman who fished, canoed, kayaked, and hiked throughout Massachusetts and Northern New England. He also enjoyed fishing the North Shore coastline for striped bass. Johnny especially loved fishing at Spring Pond with his brothers and Uncle Ed Leonard. He always had very fond memories of growing up in the Emerson Park neighborhood where he played sports and met many of his life-long and loyal friends . John touched the lives of many people. He treasured his friends and family. He was the devoted and special ‘Uncle John” to nine nieces and nephews: Michael Leonard, Sean Linehan, Megan Linehan, Sandy Leonard, Peter Soteropoulos, Brendan Leonard, Eddie Leonard, Kara Soteropoulos, and Amy Vera. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Jeff Linehan of Salem and Katherine and George Soteropoulos of Peabody; three brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas and Maureen Leonard of West Newbury, Francis “Buddy” and Donna Leonard of Rowley, and Peter and Judy Leonard of East Kingston, NH, as well as several cousins, one grand-niece and two grand-nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday May 15, 2015 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thurssday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
