Obituary of Andrew J. Gallant

Andrew J. Gallant, 84 PEABODY – Andrew Gallant entered into eternal rest on Friday May 8, 2015, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. His family was by his side while he was at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was born in Ipswich on February 7, 1931. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Maureen (Brady) Gallant. He was the son of the late Lawrence Isadore and Georgianna (Pitre) Gallant. Andy and his wife Maureen lived in Salem, Peabody, and Cincinnati, OH. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. Mr. Gallant served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952 obtaining the rank of Lance Corporal. Andy had a 40 year career in the leather and shoe industry. In his early years he worked in various shoe factories on the North Shore. Later in his career he moved into purchasing and consulting positions with United Shoe Machinery, Converse and US Shoe Corporation involving extensive national and international travel including a three year assignment in Hong Kong. Andy was a member of the Franco-American Club and the Elks Lodge in Beverly. He was also a longtime communicant at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peabody. Andy was a life-long learner, always embracing new challenges. He was a humble man with a huge heart, a warm smile and welcoming disposition that helped him form lasting friendships everywhere he went. In addition to his wife Maureen, Andy is survived by three sons: Attorney Mark Gallant & his wife Martha of Tewksbury, Richard Gallant & his wife Kathy of Wichita, KS, and Attorney Robert Gallant & his wife Allison of Tulsa, OK, and; four grandchildren, Drew Gallant of Wichita, KS, Mary Marshall Gallant of Chicago, IL, Gillian Gallant of Tulsa, OK, and Madison Gallant of Tewksbury; a brother Charles Gallant & his wife Frances of Topsfield; a brother-in-law Michael Brady & his wife Patricia of Southfield; a sister-in-law Edna Gallant of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his nine siblings Josephine, Lucian, Theodore, George, Roy, Joseph, Rosalee, Marie, and Lucy. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may made to either the Kaplan Family Hospice House c/o Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or to a charity of one’s choice.
