Obituary of Harold Edwin Carter

Harold E. Carter, 80, of Peabody died early Friday morning at the Lahey Clinic medical Center, Burlington after a long illness. He was the husband of 54 years to Jeanne (Mackey) Carter. He was born in Lynn, MA on March 15, 1935, the son of the late Ralph and Zelma (Merrow-Green) Carter and was a graduate of Lynn English High School in 1952. He entered the US Air Force in 1953 during the Korean War and served in Africa and in Biloxi, Miss. until his discharge in 1957. He was first employed at the Ideal Baby Shoe Co., Danvers and then became a computer programmer at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Co., Peabody for 30 years and later at the Coldwater Seafoods Co. Everett for 10 years prior to his retirement. He was an active member of the Amity Mosaic Lodge in Danvers and served as Master in 1975. Harold was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also liked the outdoor sports in his youth and enjoyed being a handyman around the house. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Peabody, a son, Jeff Carter of Beverly, a daughter, Debbie Carter of Hayden, Idaho, a brother Russell Carter of Harwich, MA, his nieces and nephews, Scott Carter and his wife Mary K Carter of Southborough, MA, Glenn and his wife Kathy Carter of Peabody, Valerie Merchant and her husband David of Windham, NH and Cheryl Carter of Lewiston, ME. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Amity Mosaic will conduct service at 7:45 PM. A Funeral Service will be held there on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
