Obituary of Laurel A. (Wilson) Gongas

Laurel A. (Wilson) Gongas PEABODY – Laurel A. (Wilson) Gongas, 58, of Peabody, beloved wife of George Gongas, died peacefully on Friday evening at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Dluznieski) Wilson. She was a lifelong resident of the city, and was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1975. Laurel enjoyed her life as a homemaker and nurturing mother for her family. She was creatively gifted, and wrote poems to her kids and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her inner strength in overcoming obstacles in life, and as a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband George Gongas of Peabody, with whom she enjoyed 38 years of marriage; two sons Geoffrey & his wife Katie Gongas and William & his wife Tina Gongas both of Peabody, and daughter Jaime & her husband Anibal Cruz of FL; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Katelyn, Samantha and Michael Cruz all of FL and Aiden, Landon, and Logan Gongas all of Peabody; a brother Richard & his wife Helen Wilson of AZ and sister Karen Wilson of FL; a mother-in-law Simonne Gongas of Salem; two sisters-in-law Patty & her husband Dana Gookin of Swampscott and JoAnn York of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a brother Paul Wilson and sister Julie DiMarzio. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for her Funeral Service on Thursday May 28, 2015 at 12:30 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
