Obituary of George R Cunha

George R. Cunha, 93, beloved husband of the late Nancy (Napoli) Cunha, died unexpectedly on Saturday June 6, 2015 at the Beverly Hospital. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Machado) Cunha. He grew up in East Boston, and graduated from East Boston High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Cunha was a gifted and creative problem solver, which was his root towards a career in Plastics Engineering. He worked with Raytheon, Piolite Plastics of Salem, and others. He was a Manager with Wolfers Lighting in Boston for several years until his retirement in early 1980. George enjoyed music and dancing, and enjoyed many years of Ballroom Dancing with his wife. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 2346 in Saugus, and was an avid gardener. His passion was his family, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by two daughters and a son, Elaine M. Buckley & her husband James of Billerica, Robert G. Cunha & his wife Pamela of Lynnfield, and Cheryl C. Power & her husband Edward of Reading; six grandchildren, Alyssa (Buckley) Giordano & her husband Matthew of VA and Daniel Buckley of South Boston, Bridget and Shauna Power of Reading, and Caroline and Vanessa Cunha of Lynnfield; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Mia Giordano. George was the last living of 7 siblings. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
