Obituary of Richard F. Rose Sr.
Richard F. Rose Sr., 76, a retired Peabody Police officer, died on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Peabody Glenn Nursing Home Peabody with his family at his side. He was the husband of the late Sandra (Dunajski) Rose.
He was born in Salem Ma, the son of the late Frank and Eugenia (Picanso) Rose and had resided in Peabody most of his life. He had been patrolmen with the Peabody Police Dept for 26 years starting in 1963 until his retirement in 1989. He was the recipient of the Policeman of the Year award in 1976 and while on the force, was a co-founder of the Jimmy Fund Labor Day Baseball Tournament.
Rich was a talented musician and along with his brother first formed” The Jambassadors” band in Peabody. They later named the band “The Athenians” that played for many years on the North Shore and also at weddings, celebrations and church events.
He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Bruins and had a love of animals. He also enjoyed helping others and did a lot of performances for Toys for Tots Functions with the band. He had been a member of St. Michael’s Society of Peabody and the Portuguese American Veterans Post 1 of Peabody.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Peabody police officer Richard F. Jr. and his wife Diane of Peabody, a daughter, Sheryl Rose of Green Acres, Florida, a brother, Donald Rose of Salem, his cherished grandchildren, Lexie and Makayla Rose of Peabody and Nicole Bingham of Salem, his godchildren , Robert Silva of Peabody and Christine Derby of Salem and a host of many relatives and friends. He was the grandfather of the late Jamie Marquis.
A Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM and on Saturday from 10:30 until 12 Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St,. Peabody with Services there at 12 Noon. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West 6th Floor, and Brookline Ma 02445 in his memory.
