Obituary of Thomas F. MacDonald

Thomas F. MacDonald SALEM – Thomas F. MacDonald, 65, beloved husband of Linda (Zielinski) White-MacDonald of Salem, died peacefully on Friday June 19, 2015 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a long illness. Born in Dorchester, he was the son of Marie (Woods) MacDonald of Pelham, NH and the late Francis “Frank” MacDonald. He grew up in the Lowell and Dracut area, and graduated from Dracut High School. He earned a bachelor degree from the University of Lowell, now U-Mass Lowell. He also studied at Suffolk University and Salem State College. Mr. MacDonald was employed as a Senior Planner with Digital Equipment Corporation which merged in with Compaq and then Hewlitt-Packard. His latest employment was with Fresenius Medical Care in Waltham, and he was retired for a few years. Tom had a passion for baseball, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He coached Little League in Lowell, enjoyed cooking and family or social gatherings, loved many animals especially dogs and cats, and was thrilled listening to any music performed by Elvis Presley. He is survived by his wife Linda (Zielinski) White-MacDonald of Salem, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage; two sons Frank MacDonald of Peabody, and David White of Bradford; two daughters, Sharon Surett of Peabody and Deborah Sahd of Millersville, PA; his mother Marie MacDonald of Pelham, NH; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine & Rachel Sahd, Emily, Thomas, and Collin “Teddy” Surett, and Allyson White; two brothers, Edward MacDonald of Pelham, NH and Lawrence MacDonald of Chelmsford; two sisters Maureen MacDonald and Jeanne Bourassa both of Lowell, and several nieces and nephews. He was the former husband of Mary (Rowlandson) MacDonald of Peabody. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends may gather on Tuesday June 23, 2015 at 9 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
