Obituary of Mary Joan (Smith) Hallinan

Mary Joan (Smith) Hallinan, 80 PEABODY – Mary Joan (Smith) Hallinan, 80, wife of William Hallinan, passed away in Lakeland, FL, surrounded by her family, on February 17, 2015. Born in Lynn on April 8, 1934, to George and Ruth (Cunningham) Smith, Mary was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Class of 1952. Prior to her retirement to Florida, Mary was a longtime Cashier and considered the Mayor of Market Basket in Danvers. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed time with her family, playing cards with her dear friends from South Peabody and Lake Pointe Village, FL, golfing, and solving crossword puzzles. Besides her husband, Mary is survived by her children, Billy, Tommy and wife Gale, Annie and husband Artie, Susan and her husband Tony, and Jeannie and fiancé Paul; her siblings Carol Eagar and Robert and wife Joann Smith, and in-laws Tom and Dorothy Hallinan; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a proud grandmother to Amy, Jay, Sean, Erin, Rori, Stephanie, John, Lindsey, Nick, Bryan, Nicholas, Anthony, and Matthew; and a loving Gigi to her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Jack and Coco. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her siblings Ruth and Joe Doucette, George (Buddy) and Caroline Smith, Ralph and Frannie Smith, and Raymond Smith; her mother and father-in-law Tom and Louise Hallinan, brothers-in-law Henry (Harry) Eagar and James Hallinan, sisters-in-law Jane Kraus and Dorothy Hallinan; daughter-in-law Mary Hallinan, and grandson Alec Mineo. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday June 27, 2015 from 9:30 to 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Memorial Service at 11 A.M.
