Obituary of Anna (Apostolides) Varinos

Anna (Apostolides) Varinos, of Peabody, Massachusetts , loving wife of Tassos Varinos, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Sunday, June 21, 2015 with her family by her side. Born in Peabody on September 29, 1924, she was the daughter of John and Ourania (Venios) Apostolides. She was raised in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School. Anna began her working career as a bookkeeper for M.H. Baker in Salem and left to raise her family. She returned to work when her children had grown and was employed as a bookkeeper at Matz Tanning, Marshalls, Daniel Lowes and Strauss Tanning. Prior to her retirement in 1994, Anna was the office manager and bookkeeper at her son’s dental office, Varinos Dental Associates. Anna was a parishioner of St. Vasilios and was happiest when she was with family and friends, many of whom lived in the Greek neighborhood in the shadow of the church. She liked traveling back to Chios, the Greek island of her and Tassos’ ancestors. She took great joy and pride in her grandchildren and supported and followed their many achievements. In addition to her husband, Tassos, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, Anna is survived by her children and their spouses: Dr. Frank and Tina Varinos of Middleton and Francine and Paul G. Butler Jr. of Danvers; her four cherished grandchildren: Anastas, Speros, Elias and Sophia Varinos. She was predeceased by her five brothers: John “Marco”, Farnis, James, Paul and her twin brother Joachim “Kim”. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff at Landmark at Oceanview Assisted Living Facility and Element Care for the extraordinary care given to our mother, with special thanks to her nurse Jean Gannon. Anna’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 26th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody.
