Obituary of Gerald Joseph Harris

Gerald Joseph Harris, 67, of Peabody, died late Saturday night at Salem Hospital following injuries sustained at his home on Saturday afternoon. He was the loving husband of Vivienne (Skelton) Harris with whom he shared over 38 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Attridge) Harris. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody, attended St. John’ s Grammar School in Peabody and then graduated from St. Mary’ s High School, Lynn in 1956. He first worked in the leather industry as a buffer and tanner for Sirois Leather, Carr Leather, and finally Flynntan Leather for sixteen years. He then worked an additional sixteen years for the IRS as a tracker, retiring from the Lowell office in December of 2003. Mr. Harris enjoyed gardening, reading, hunting, fishing, bird watching, and clipping coupons. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his three sons and daughter-in-law, Gerald Harris and Damien Harris, both of Peabody, and Paul and Beverly Harris of West Groton, a brother and sister-in-law, James and Laura Harris of Alexandria, VA, a sister, Ruth McVann of Wisconsin, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Harris of Peabody, and three grandchildren, Abigail, Lillian, and Kaci Mae Harris. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was the brother of the lated Donald Harris. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church ST., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
