Obituary of Bertram S. Quintal

Bertram S. Quintal, 87, of Peabody, died peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the devoted husband of sixty three years to Janice (Powers) Quintal. He was born in Salem, MA on October 7, 1927, the son of the late Wilfred and Jeannette (Fiengold) Quintal and was raised and educated there before moving to Peabody sixty years ago. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Lowell Tech and also took advanced studies at Mass Institute of Technology in Cambridge. He had been employed at Ion-Physics Co of Burlington and later at Energy Sciences in Woburn until his retirement 24 years ago. During WW 11, Bert served with the Merchant Marines until his discharge in 1946. During his long career he was granted several patents for inventions in his field of expertise. Bert was an incredibly dedicated husband and father who found immense enjoyment in watching his family grow. He especially looked forward to gathering family and friends on holidays and summer vacations, while he and his wife Jan busied themselves to ensure that each was a memorable occasion. His children and grandchildren are forever grateful. Bert also took great pleasure in spending time at the family cottage in Lake Ossipee, NH, where he enjoyed boating, fishing and golfing. Bert had many talents and hobbies including photography, still –life painting, music, cooking and carpentry/ woodworking as evidenced by the many hanging paintings and photos and custom made furniture throughout the home and cottage. He is survived by his wife, Janice of Peabody, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kim (Amero) Quintal and Brian and Diane Quintal all of Peabody and a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Kenneth MacKenzie of Peabody, his five grandchildren, Michael and Melissa MacKenzie and Kevin, Natasha and Shawn Quintal, a brother, Donald Quintal of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sixth grandchild, Kristen Rose Quintal. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery Salem.
