Obituary of Manuel S. Silva

Manuel S. Silva, 77, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Maria Jesuina (Pais) Silva, with whom he shared over 52 years of marriage. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Joao and Rosa E. (dos Santos) Silva. He was raised and educated in Portugal and also served for two years with the Portuguese Army. He has been living in Peabody for the past 35 years. While living in Peabody, he worked for several years in the leather industry as a Tacker, mostly with Crease and Cook in Danversport. He later worked at the Sheraton Hotel in Danvers until his retirement many years ago. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and wine making, and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society in Peabody. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joao and Lucia Silva of Salem, Americo and Maria Silva of Peabody, and Michael Silva of Peabody, and a daughter and son-in-law, Liduina and Jose Silva of Lowell. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Johnny and Ricky Silva, Stephanie and her husband Christopher Hartford, Kevin Silva, Sonia and Joey Silva, and Tiffany and Kristen Silva. He was the brother of the late Maria Melo Silva. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday from 5:00 until 9:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Donations can be made in his name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
