John J. “Jack” Foley
PEABODY – John J. “Jack” Foley, 84, beloved husband of the late Maryann (Opidee) Foley, died peacefully at the Hunt Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility in Danvers on Wednesday July 1, 2015, while in the comforting presence of his family.
Born in Roxbury, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Toohy) Foley. He grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. He graduated from BC High School, then also graduated from Boston College with a bachelor degree in education.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was discharged as a Corporal.
Mr. Foley worked in several companies, and his last place was Treasurer for the City of Peabody for eight years, retiring 20 years ago.
Jack was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 508 of Peabody, and enjoyed bowling in different leagues. He was an avid Boston sports fan, and enjoyed social gatherings with family and friends.
He is survived by four daughters, Dianne Couture & her husband Marc of Cape Neddick, ME, Doreen DeRosier & her husband Steve of Billerica, Denise Burns of Newport, RI, and Darlene Foley & Dave Mahan of Peabody; four grandchildren, Kristina DeRosier and Ryan DeRosier both of Billerica, and Brendan Burns and Katie Burns both of Newport, RI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a sister Catherine “Kay” Salvesen.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday July 3, 2015 from 9:30 to 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
