Obituary of Mary (Ferraro) McKenna-Scanlan
Mary T. “Nonnie” (Ferraro) McKenna- Scanlan, 91, passed peacefully at her home in Lynn early Friday July 3 2015. She was the loving wife of the late Leo A. McKenna Jr, the late Harry Scanlan and the loving companion of the late Richard Clowes.
Mary was born in Grotteria, Reggio Calabria, Italy, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose (Papandrea) Ferraro and was proudly raised in the Brickyard section of Lynn, MA. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and during her career; she was a seamstress, a hairdresser and a candy maker. Most importantly, Mary was a mother to her children as well as to the neighborhood children who spent many years at “The Wall”.
Mary not only welcomed everyone into her home but also fed everyone; she was a wonderful cook and her talent was appreciated by everyone.
In Mary’s words, as she blew a kiss, she said “I love you”.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Sandra Kassiotis and her husband Gregory of Rowley, Kathy Erb, wife of the late Stuie of Lunenburg, Maureen McKenna of Lynn; her son, Leo and his wife Vicki McKenna of Rowley; her loving grandchildren, Meaghan McKenna Lane and her husband Jeff of Rowley, Lee McKenna and his partner Kayla Barber of Ipswich and Jessica McKenna of Rowley, She also leaves her cherished great grandchildren, Leo Gregory Mc Kenna, Lilly Ann Lane and Oliver Jack Lane. She was the beloved sister of Joseph and his late wife Laura Ferraro of Lynn, Angie and her husband John Capamaccio of Andover and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James and his wife Mary (Kilroy) Ferrara, the sister-in-law of the late Catherine McKenna and the mother-in-law of the late Jack McGaughey.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
