Obituary of John A. MacDonald
John Angus MacDonald 92 of Middleton and Lynn, loving husband of the late Barbara Ann (Allen) MacDonald with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, died on Saturday evening July 11, 2015 with his family by his side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Mr. MacDonald was born in Lynn on March 18, 1923 son of Peter and Mary (Morrison) MacDonald. He was raised in Lynn and was a 1941 graduate of Lynn English High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served with the 2535 AAF BU as an aerial gunner 611 in the Air Offensive in Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland prior to being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1945.
Prior to his retirement in 1986, John was employed for 40 years as a tool and dye maker at the G.E. Riverworks Building 69 in Lynn. As a parent he was involved with his children with their many recreational, athletic and educational opportunities. He was also so proud of his cherished grandchildren and their accomplishments. In 2003, John and his brother Peter were the champions of the Gold Classic Tournament. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and also belonged to the GE Bowling League at Lucky Strike in Lynn and at Metro Bowl in Peabody.
John is survived by his loving children and their spouses, John A. MacDonald of Salem, Mary E. and Curt Bellavance of Peabody, Karen A. and John Lynch of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Barbara J. and Gregory Story, and Eileen M. and Michael O’Donnell all of Middleton; his cherished grandchildren, Erin Stewart, Jeffrey Stewart and his wife Tiffany, Emily Bellavance, Jack Lynch, Matthew Lynch, Olivia Story, Adam Story, John O’Donnell and Kelsey O’Donnell; a precious great grandchild, Cambree Stewart; a cousin, Sr. Theresa Currie, Sisters of Mercy in Nova Scotia, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In 2012, he was predeceased by his brother Peter W. MacDonald.
John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Pius Fifth, 215Maple St. Lynn.
