Obituary of Claire M. (Merritt) Mastromarino

Claire M. (Merritt) Mastromarino, 88, of Peabody, wife of the late John A. Mastromarino, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at her home. She was born in Boston, MA on July 16, 1927, the daughter of the late William J. and Grace L. (Napier) Merritt. She was raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School and worked in several companies in Boston. After her marriage to John Mastromarino, she worked at his side to help him build his business, Logan Engineering, and to establish the family summer home in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, an island cottage retreat wholeheartedly enjoyed by friends and family for over a decade. In later years, the couple began a life-changing adventure with an RV trip through Mexico, leading them from jungles to mountains to Mayan ruins, and eventually to a fishing village in the Yucatan, Puerto Morelos, that became their winter respite. Claire was an active member of St. Adelaide Parish in West Peabody, which not only enhanced the joy and comfort of her faith, but connected her to a group of wonderful friends with whom she shared laughter, prayers and solace. Claire was also humbled to be part of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, where she deepened her Christian commitment. Claire is survived by her son, John A. Mastromarino , a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy A. and Thomas A. Schillereff all of Puerto, Morelos, Mexico, a daughter Susan M. Major of Salem, MA, two granddaughters, Corey A. Schillereff of Cancun, Mexico and Laura R. Major of Salem, MA as well as two great-grandchildren, Jordan T. and Alana D. Schillereff of Cancun, Mexico and her nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday July 24, 2015 at 12:30 PM at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody followed by a burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. As per Claire’s request, a visitation will be held at St. Adelaide’s Church from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM prior to the mass.
