Obituary of Ellen A. (Alexander) Reid
Ellen Rachel Alexander Reid 85 of Revere and Lynn, beloved wife of the late John J. Reid with whom she shared many loving years of marriage, died on Wednesday morning, July 22nd, 2015 with her family at her side at Salem Hospital.
She was born at home in Belmont on July 7 1930. Daughter of the late Thomas and Eliza (Sheppard) Alexander. She is the loving sister to her older siblings, Thomas Alexander of Holliston and Anne Smith of Springfield.
She had a wonderful loving bond with both her siblings especially Thomas who she adored. She was often referred to as “Tommy’s little sister” at Belmont High School where she graduated from. She often corrected this to say that he was Ellen’s older brother.
She worked throughout her life in the banking industry at various financial institutions for over 50 years. She finally retired at age 80 from Eastern Bank. She was often teased by her husband that though she was in the banking industry, he would not allow her to handle the home checkbook as she never could balance the account correctly.
She loved her family immensely and always put her children first. She was the happiest when she was spending time with them. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts, travel to Aruba with Johnny and she loved her many dogs that she had over the years. She loved fashion and loved to shop for bargains. She was a diehard football fan of the World Champions, New England Patriots!
She is the loving mother of Sandra Barrett and her husband, Bob of Peabody, John Reid of Middleton, and Kimberly Reid of Derry, NH. She is the doting Nana to her cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Robert, Olivia, Aiden, John and Kelsie. She was a favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews who she adored. She is the loving sister in law to Edward Smith of Springfield and the late Joanne Alexander.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 24, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, and 82 Lynn St., Peabody. As per Ellen’s request, her celebration of life and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ellen’s memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, www.northeastanimalshelter.org, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
