Obituary of Mary Louise (Waters) Newton

Mary Louise (Waters) Newton 97, of Peabody, died peacefully in her sleep early Thursday morning, July 23, 2015 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Peabody. Mrs. Newton was born in Peabody on January 5, 1918 daughter of Henry and Helen (Mulcahy) Waters. She was raised in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School. She raised her family in Salem and was a resident of Lynnfield for the last 26 years. In 1941, Mary married her childhood sweetheart Allen Bishop Newton and shared 70 years of marriage prior to his death on January 8, 2011. She was employed as head bookkeeper at Sears in Peabody until her retirement in 1980. Mary was a loving mother who created a home for her family and was so proud of her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. As hobbies, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, bingo, and crossword puzzles. Mary is survived by her 2 daughters and their spouses, Linda and Richard Roach of Torrington, CT. and Kathleen and Stephen Armitstead of Ipswich, her grandchildren and their spouses, Erin and Stephen Karpenko of Harwinton, CT, Amy and John Revere of Thomaston, CT, and Beth and Christopher Gaudette of Thomaston, CT, Michael and Barbara Armitstead of Ipswich, and Mark and Julie Armitstead of Topsfield, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters Anna Vance and K. Elinor Gustafson. Mary’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed with her celebration of life service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
