Obituary of Francis A. Gordon

Francis A. Gordon 95, of Peabody, loving husband of the late Freda B. (Yetman) Gordon, passed in his sleep at his home on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Mr. Gordon was born in Revere on July 20, 1920 son of George and Ethel (Ash) Gordon. The family returned to Newfoundland where he was raised and educated returning to Revere in 1940. In 1942, he enlisted into the U. S. Army Air Corps, servicing B-17 bombers with the 549th bomb squadron of the 8th Army Air Corps in England and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1945. Frank began a 35 year career at the Boston and Lockport Block Company in Boston prior to the war and retired in 1985 from Johnny Appleseed’s in Beverly, MA, a position which he held for 10 years. As a parent Frank was involved with his children in their many recreational and educational opportunities, and was so proud of his 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren all of whom he cherished. Frank was very devoted and involved as a vestry member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peabody, was superintendent of the Sunday School at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chelsea for many years, and volunteered at Haven from Hunger in Peabody. He and his late wife Freda enjoyed traveling and he was also known as a jack of all trades helping anyone in need. He was tough as nails and twice as sharp. The family wants to extend a special thank you to his neighbors for their support extended to their father over many seasons. Frank is survived by his children and their spouses, Linda F. and David King of Peabody, Jane R. Yandell of Groveland, Betty S. and Joe Laiacano of Gloucester, and Frank R. and Jeanne Gordon of Amesbury; his cherished grandchildren, Andrew, David Jon, Beth, Matthew, Jenny, Vanessa, Sarah, Jessica, Adam, Andrew, Nicholas, Sean, and Justin; 11 great grandchildren plus several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, John Frederick, Archibald, and Margaret. His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA. His celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 46 Cherry St., Danvers, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody following the service.
